About
a mixed ability sport
We believe in the power of inclusivity and bringing people of all abilities together to enjoy the thrilling game of rugby. Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the sport, Fusion Rugby provides a supportive and welcoming community for everyone.
In wheelchair rugby you can only take part if you have a qualifing disability. You may be confined to a wheelchair but you might not be disabled enough to play wheelchair rugby. We think that is just plain wrong!
There are a number of people who really enjoy wheelchair rugby but are not welcomed into the sport because they simply are not disabled enough. If you do get a wheelchair rugby classification you cannot compete against your own family or group of friends! So let’s change that.
We believe if you put an able bodied person into a wheelchair and use the right strapping they are almost as restricted in their movements as most wheelchair rugby players. We have also changed the way in which the game is played so certain set pieces from the world of rugby union, like a line out, can be played by able bodied players with the aim of getting the ball to less able bodied players to keep the game rolling.
Finally, with a change to how the scores are calculated, you have a game where everyone has a place and is just as important as any other player.
