FUSION RUGBY

a mixed ability sport

fusion

What is fusion rugby?

Fusion rugby was created so people of all abilities can play together and compete at the same level. Able bodied players run set pieces, just like rugby union, but the scoring is bias towards wheelchair players.

In the world of wheelchair rugby players are classified depending on their level of disability. A person with very limited movement is a low point player whereas someone with good motor function is a high point player.

The lower classified player acts as a defender whilst the high pointer get all the glory and score the vast majority of tries.

Rugby Union is nearly exclusively an able bodied sport made up of a set number of player positions. Players are generally referred to as forwards or backs with both sets having a predescribed set pieces within the game.

But if you put an able bodied person into a rugby wheelchair they find themselves able to compete more as equals.

That is FUSION RUGBY.
